What Are Veneers?

Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells crafted from porcelain or composite resin that are designed to cover the front surface of teeth.

They are permanently bonded to your teeth, creating a natural, attractive look. Veneers are an ideal solution for improving your smile if you have teeth that are discolored, worn down, chipped, misaligned, uneven, or irregularly shaped.

What Do Veneers Treat?

Veneers are versatile and can be used to treat a variety of dental issues:

  • Discoloration: Veneers can cover stains that teeth whitening cannot resolve, including discoloration from root canal treatment, large resin fillings, or certain medications.
  • Wear and Tear: Teeth naturally wear down over time. Veneers are excellent for restoring their original appearance.
  • Chips and Breaks: Chipped or broken teeth can be covered up with veneers, giving them a healthy and intact appearance.
  • Misalignment and Gaps: For minor issues, veneers can serve as a cosmetic fix, making teeth appear straighter and closing gaps between them.

The Benefits of Veneers Compared to Crowns

While both veneers and crowns are forms of cosmetic dental treatment, they serve different purposes and have distinct benefits:

  • Less Invasiveness: Veneers generally require less removal of the tooth structure compared to crowns, which need the tooth to be significantly reshaped.
  • Aesthetic Enhancement: Veneers are primarily used for cosmetic purposes and are ideal for front teeth as they are thinner and designed to blend in with your natural tooth color.
  • Durability: Although thinner, porcelain veneers are highly durable and resistant to stains, maintaining their color and appearance over time.

Signs It's Time to Consider Veneers

Consider consulting with Dr. Solanki if you want to discuss:

Persistent Stains

If your teeth have stains that do not respond to professional whitening treatments.

Worn Enamel

Over time, the thin, hard outer substance covering your teeth (enamel) may become worn or dulled.

Cosmetic Improvements

If you are seeking to improve the appearance of your smile for personal or professional reasons.

The Process of Getting Veneers

The process of getting veneers at Royersford Dental is detailed and meticulous, ensuring results that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing:

Consultation and Planning

Your journey begins with a detailed consultation with Dr. Solanki, where your dental health will be assessed, and your goals discussed. This step may include taking X-rays and making impressions of your mouth and existing teeth.

Preparation

To prepare for veneers, a small amount of enamel from the tooth surface is removed. This amount is nearly equal to the thickness of the veneer to be added, ensuring that the tooth remains the same size. A model or impression of your tooth is then made and sent to the dental lab that constructs the veneer.

Fitting

Once your veneers are ready, you will return to have the veneers placed. Before permanently cementing the veneer to your tooth, Dr. Solanki will temporarily place it on your tooth to examine its fit and color, making any necessary adjustments for the best possible results.

Bonding

The tooth will be cleaned, polished, and etched to allow for a strong bonding process. A special cement is then applied to the veneer, which is placed on your tooth. Once properly positioned, a special light beam is used to harden the cement, securing the veneer firmly.

Frequently
Asked Questions

Are veneers permanent?

Yes, veneers are considered a permanent treatment because they involve reshaping the natural teeth.

How long do veneers last?

With proper care and maintenance, porcelain veneers can last between 10 to 15 years.

Do veneers require special care?

Veneers do not require special care. Continue brushing, flossing, and visiting the dentist regularly. However, avoid using your veneers as tools (to open packaging, for example), as this can damage them.

Are veneers right for me?

Veneers are suitable for most adults with cosmetic concerns. However, patients with severe dental issues such as advanced gum disease may need other treatments first.

How much do veneers cost?

The cost of veneers varies depending on the number of veneers and the specific needs of the patient. We provide a detailed cost breakdown during your consultation.
